Cancer of the breast was diagnosed in 1989. Her death came a decade after battling cancer. Handler's father is Jewish as was her mother. She raised to Reform Judaism. Handler was raised in a safe neighborhood and had a happy childhood. At the age of 19, Handler relocated into Los Angeles to pursue her acting career. Handler employed as an actor in order to support herself. Her ability to tell stories was uncovered when she reached the age of 21. Handler then decided to devote her full-time career in stand-up comedy. At the beginning of her career Handler started out her career in the Oxygen network's all-female cast of an undiscovered camera/real-life joke TV series Girls Behaving Badly. This reality TV show ran from 2002-2005. Handler then started appearing in other programs such as Weekends at the D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler started working as a correspondent on The Tonight Show as a correspondent. Handler had her biggest break in 2006, when she was named host on E! known as The Chelsea Handler show. The show ran for two seasons. Handler followed this up by performing on Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour which was a tour within the United States. Her stand-up performances have been broadcast on VH1, Comedy Central's Premium Blend and HBO. In 2010, she hosted the MTV Video Music Awards 2010 were announced. The only female host of the VMAs following Roseanne Bar.
